We are excited to announce the parents of our planned black and chocolate litter... Nova and Bishop! Puppies planned to arrive in September, 2011, and will be ready for their homes mid-late November, 2011.

Nova & Bishop are wonderful dogs, exemplifying true Labrador personalities, loyal to their human friends, who would be pleased to lay at your feet, or sit on your lap! :)

These two are fine specimens of the breed, and have personality plus!

Further to the basic hip, elbow & eye clearances, both parents are OptiGen NORMAL/CLEAR for PRA/prcd which is a gene that causes blindness, DNA Tested for EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse), DNA Tested for CNM (Central Nuclear Myopathy) and DNA Tested for RD/OSD (Retinal Dysplasia/OculoSkeletal Dysplasia). Nova & Bishop do not have these diseases, which means their puppies WILL NOT have these diseases either.

Bishop has also had his hips rated by PennHip. What is PennHip?

PennHIP stands for the University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program.

PennHIP is a multifaceted radiographic technology (x-ray) for hip evaluation. The technique assesses the quality of the canine hip and quantitatively measures canine hip joint laxity. The PennHIP method of evaluation is more accurate than the current standard in its ability to predict the onset of osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease (DJD), is the hallmark of canine hip dysplasia (CHD).

PennHIP is more than just a radiographic technique. It is also a network of veterinarians trained to perform the PennHIP methodology properly and, perhaps most importantly, it is a large scientific database that houses the PennHIP data. The radiographs are made by certified PennHIP members worldwide and are sent to the PennHIP analysis center for evaluation.

Being Bishop is a Labrador Retrievers, his hip evaluations are compared to all other Labradors in PennHip's database. The average is 50th percentile, and Bishop scored very high - in the 90th percentile.

This is one more tool some breeders are using to try and decrease the incidences of hip dysplasia that is prevalent in the breed.
